In Strict Tempo: Ceremony #4 Semtek Sketch 2005
The latest edition of In Strict Tempo’s Ceremony mix series comes from a good friend of mine, Benji Lehmann aka Semtek, DJ Persuasion and a number of other less prolific aliases. As well as being a producer, Benji runs the esteemed Don’t Be Afraid label as well as working as a mastering engineer. Recently he’s just launched a free mentoring service for up-and-coming producers. You can find him on Instagram at @a_new_unity and be sure to check out his latest release Four More Dubs on all good streaming and download services.
This mix has been hiding in the vaults for some 20 years now, and Benji kindly shared it with In Strict Tempo readers & listeners. In his own words:
In 2005 I got my first regular gig which was in the bar of Sketch, the restaurant in Soho with the iconic egg-shaped toilets. This was the mix that got me the slot, it reflects that era really well. There’s some DFA, some EBM courtesy NIN, some electronica and early minimal cuts and some nu disco sounding euphoric bits to finish. Recorded on vinyl and a pair of CDJ 100s which were the cheapest CD decks going, they weren’t much fun to use but they did the job. Hope you enjoy the mix.
